We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and practical maker to fabricate and install projects for Studio Vertigo and Full Blown.

This hands-on role spans medium and large-scale sculpture, illuminated artworks and bespoke commissions for festivals, public spaces, architectural settings and commercial environments.

Every project is different. You might spend one week fabricating components for a touring light installation, the next assembling and finishing a bespoke sculptural commission, and later travel with the team to install an artwork in a city centre or public space.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys making high-quality work and working collaboratively to overcome new technical and practical challenges. The materials, processes and pace of work change from project to project, so the role will particularly suit someone who enjoys variety, adapts readily and remains engaged when each build presents something new.

If you are someone who is genuinely interested in the work we create, takes pride in their contribution and wants to become an important part of our close-knit team, then we’d love to hear from you.

The role.

You will:

  • Fabricate components and assemblies, working primarily with metal alongside other materials when required.

  • Read technical drawings and turn developed designs into accurately made work.

  • Assemble, finish, test and prepare projects to a high standard.

  • Pack and load large or delicate work safely for transport.

  • Install and dismantle work throughout the UK and occasionally internationally, including outdoor winter light festivals.

  • Contribute to workshop safety and consistent standards of quality, finish and presentation.

  • Adapt to the different practical requirements of each project.

About you.

We are looking for someone with at least four years’ professional experience in fabrication, multi-skilled making or a closely related field.

You will bring:

  • Strong metal-fabrication skills and safe, accurate use of relevant machinery, power tools and hand tools.

  • The ability to read technical drawings and work carefully from them.

  • A methodical approach, attention to detail and pride in the finished work.

  • The ability to work independently and take responsibility for quality.

  • A collaborative approach to working within a small team.

  • Flexibility across changing projects, materials and workshop processes.

  • A genuine interest in the artworks and commissions you are helping to create.

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and stay away, sometimes for several days.

Experience in welding, mechanical assembly, lighting or electrical installation, exhibition or scenic fabrication, public-art installation, modular structures, rigging, packing or transport would be useful. We do not expect one person to bring every desirable skill.

About Studio Vertigo and Full Blown.

Studio Vertigo creates internationally exhibited public artworks and immersive light installations that transform public spaces and bring people together through shared experiences.

Our sister company, Full Blown, designs and fabricates bespoke sculptural, architectural and luxury retail commissions, collaborating with designers, architects and creative agencies to deliver ambitious projects from concept through to installation.

Together, the two businesses offer an unusually varied working environment where art, design, engineering and fabrication come together.

What we offer.

  • A competitive salary, dependent on experience.

  • Exceptionally varied work across public art, light installations, sculpture, architecture, luxury retail and bespoke commissions.

  • Direct involvement from the drawing board or workshop through to final installation.

  • A genuinely flexible approach to working hours and time off, coordinated around project deadlines, installations and the needs of the team.

  • Overtime paid or taken back as time off in lieu, by agreement.

  • Required travel and installation time treated as working time, with time outside contracted hours managed as overtime or time off in lieu.

  • Eligibility for a discretionary annual profit-related bonus after 12 months’ service.

  • Opportunities to travel throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.

  • A close-knit, independent and non-hierarchical team where your ideas and contribution have a visible effect on the finished work.

There are no layers of management between the idea and the people making it. Everyone contributes, solves problems together and takes responsibility for creating work of the highest quality.
